Transforming a corner of your kitchen into a stylish and functional coffee bar can not only elevate your daily coffee ritual but also add a unique touch to your home. If you’re a coffee enthusiast, then creating a dedicated zone for brewing and savouring your favourite beverages can have a huge impact on your morning routine. Here are our essential tips for designing a home coffee bar that’s both practical and beautiful.

Choose the Right Location

First things first, select a spot in your kitchen that doesn’t interfere with the flow of the rest of your space. Consider proximity to water for easy filling and cleaning of your coffee machine.

Invest in Quality Appliances

Your coffee bar’s crown jewels are the appliances — primarily, a good coffee machine. Depending on your preference, this could be an espresso machine, a French press, or a drip coffee maker. It could be free-standing, or it could be integrated. Consider how much space you have, as well as your budget and the type of coffee you enjoy.

Smart Storage Solutions

Effective storage is key to a clutter-free coffee bar. Use bespoke shelving above or cabinets below your coffee station for storing mugs, saucers, and coffee pods / beans. Clear, airtight containers are not only practical for preserving the freshness of your coffee and sugar, but can also be an aesthetically pleasing touch.

Utility Meets Style

Consider a mix of open shelving and closed cabinetry. Open shelves can display your beautiful coffee mugs and specialty coffee beans, while closed cabinets can hide away bulkier items or less attractive essentials. Integrated appliances, such as a Gaggenau coffee machine (pictured left) and a Quooker hot tap, can help make the coffee making process a breeze. You can even take your coffee bar from day to night by incorporating glass holders for martini glasses. Latte in the AM, Espresso Martini in the PM – sounds good to us!

Lighting and Comfort

Good lighting is crucial. If possible, set up your coffee bar near a natural light source. Under-cabinet lights can create a cosy and inviting atmosphere. Including a couple of stools or a small seating area near your coffee bar can turn it into a social hub, perfect for morning coffees with family or evening catch-ups with a friend.

Personalise your coffee bar

This is where you infuse your personality into the space. Choose a colour scheme that complements your home’s décor and personal style. Add splashes of personality through your artistic mug collection or quirky ornaments.

Keep it Functional

Remember, your coffee bar should be easy to use. Keep your most-used items within reach, and design the flow of the space to suit your coffee-making process. From the water source to the grinder, coffee maker, and finally to the serving area, a logical setup will enhance your experience!
